Re: AD10 & CD15 transmission?

Great, I may get the whole package (1 7.5 running, 1 7.5 missing one coil, 1 5.5 running, and two tanks for 175$ canadian. I just want to test the compression and i think it will be a good deal!

I think the compression could be 100 psi at least?
Is there any other check i can perform before closing the deal?

Good Morning! Generally if we see 70PSI or higher, and 15PSI or less difference, they can be made to run fairly well.
DHP

Don't be too concerned about real high compression readings. Remember, these Are old engines. Anything above 80 is fine. Also, ask them if they will allow you to check the lower unit fluid to make sure there is no problem there. Take a screwdriver(Large) and some new lower unit fluid along with you to replace what you take out, if you decide to pass on them. Any coffee colored lube that comes out could mean trouble in the lower unit. As will particles that come out. Also, request that you run the motors and that they run smooth and start quickly. Ask when the last time they were used in the water and when the water pumps were changed. Make sure props are in good shape...

You could find them, but probably not easily. There are many sites that specialize in old parts that can help if you look hard enough. Worry about that when you get to it...

EDIT: Let me rephrase that about the coffee looking fluid. I don't want to mislead you into thinking the lower unit is bad. Fluid that has been in there along time will be black. That's OK! Fluid that has had water intrusion in it will come out a creamy color. Newer, but used oil, will look clear, but somewhat stained. Any particles that will not dissolve when rubbed between your fingers are trouble. If you find any problems, use that to your advantage to haggle the price down...

So that would be coffee with lots of creamer added...

To answer another question, seal kits are readily available and don't cost a whole lot. Migght take you an afternoon to reseal the first one, maybe a bit less for the second one as your experience improves...

- Scott

Re: AD10 & CD15 transmission?

Ok As i began to dismantle small motors when i wa ten, :D and always had many kind of small engines (2 & 4 stroke)and many kind of cars and trucks (gas& diesel), i think i can easily fix a couple of troubles on an outboard (in spite i never had one before last year  )
At least I Hope... ;) In fact, i hate all 2 stroke engines until i buy this little '76 4hp Rude last year... Th efirst time i pulled the bootrope, and it begin to rumble smoothly... I am Rude/Johnson-dependant since that time :D
Thank you all guys for your knowledge..
p.s. I hope you undersdand me becaus i you can read, english is not my first language, so if i seem to say stupiditis, it only by mistake :D
