Adapter or missing part?

I have a 1990 Evinrude 50, TE50TLESF.

I asked this last night, but I have been able to look at my motor a little more today and have more insight.

I have two sets of wires coming from my controls. One set has three wires (Green with white, Red with White, and Blue with white) These are part of my Tilt/Trim system. But there is no way for me to hook them up. The motor side of this connection is a half round five pin connector. The control side is a three wire flat spade connector.

The second set of wires (Gey, Black, and Purple) have no corresponding connection on the motor side. Two wires have a small round eyelet, and the third is a spade (male). What am I missing here?

Am I missing an adapter, or is there something else I need to add?

The lower unit came to me in peices. After some indepth head scratching. I am missing all the parts that connect the shiftrod to the lowerunit (those under the plastic cover). I have the rod that fits down the tilt tube and into the lower unit, but I have no way to make a connection.

Where can I find this handful of parts?

Thanks for all the help.

Re: Adapter or missing part?

Ginder75-I misunderstood you yesterday about the second set of wires. If they're coming off the remote control then the grey black and purple are wires to go to a tachometer.

Go to ishopmarine.com and bring up the parts diagrams for your motor. You can select the parts that you need directly from the diagrams.

Re: Adapter or missing part?

[What about hooking the flat three into a round five?

I have read that there is an adapter, but that is not a part I seem to be able to locate. I am starting to think I am missing part of the wiring harness.

Thanks for all the comments, we are slowly bringing this motor back to life.

If the Grey, Purple and Black wires are part of a Tachometer. What type of tachometer would be compatiable?

Thanks,

Robert

Tach must be for 12 pole alternator and have a setting for "6" pulse on the back...Teleflex, OMC, Faria, Etc. make them..

The tilt and trim wiring requires a separate harness #0583205. Wires at the control as well as the trim gauge wiring connect to it.

Re: Adapter or missing part?

Ezeke,

If I understand you correctly, I am actually looking for several seperate peices.

A trim gauge (would this be on the console or the motor), then a new wiring harness that will use the five pin connector under the motor cover and the existing wired plugs. This new wiring harness will connect the trim switch on the control box to the interal wiring harness on the motor.

Makes sense, but now I am looking for even more parts! I already ordered $125 for the motor this morning.

Thanks,

Gauge is on the console - shows the relative position of the motor as you trim up and down. Two of the five wires go to the gauge. The other three connect to the trim switch on the control through a three spade connector.

Re: Adapter or missing part?

Ezeke,

Thanks for all the help. I finally got on a new website last night that had a breakdown of my lower unit. Turns out that I don't need the missing part afterall. Aparently, they have one exploded view for several different models of lower units. And I need all but the one piece I could not order.

So, now I am waiting on the UPS man to bring me all my goodies and I will have a boat on the water in the near future.
