I have been looking at a complete rebuild of the three carbs. The cost is about 400 dollars or so.

If I add Fuel Injection Iw ill never have to fiddle with the jets or the idle again. Nor would I have to pump that stupid bulb which I seem to for get.

I am looking at a Megasquirt kit for the CPU $140
Fuel pump- $90 marine rated too.
3 fuel injectors. $10 each at junk yard.
Intake fabrication $20 bucks
Fuel rail fabrication $20 bucks.
Fuel regulator $30 bucks junk yard.
Throttle body $50
$140
$90
$10
$20
$30
$50
----
$350 or so.

The trick is to know a bit more about the intake and air amount I use when Idleing and full throttleing.

Any thoughts?

My assumptions are that mixed fuel 50:1 will work in a fuel injector. I did run 10 gallons through a truck once and it did not seem to affect the truck.
If I go with MPI there will be three injectors and if I go Sigle port there will only need to be 1.

The advantages i will see are there will need to be no tuning once setup.
If I go to sea level i will not have to spend 150+ 45 in parts to change the jets.
Also My lakes are either 4200-4500 Ft or 6500-7000.
This dictates a jet change if I don't want to run rich which is what I am doing now.

Can I plate the fuel pump? Do I need to change or get rid of the Fuel recirculation valve.

Just to let you know its an 85Hp 1988 865X8A 3 cylinders.

I might even be able to do spark also but not sure yet if I want to go that far.

It sounds like a FUN project but all the factorys seem to have blown up a LOT of motors getting it right :)

tommays

Re: Add Fuel injection to Force

why?

in a car fuel injection has a cost of ownership around $0.01 per mile based on an average repair of $500 to $1000 at the average age of 70K miles. Caberators on the other hand have an average lifespan of 150,000 miles and a rebuild cost of $15. I don't see how the cost of ownership is suppossed to be any better on a boat. If anything I would expect it to be even more skewed in favor of carbs.

but anyway .... hit ebay. you can get chrysler carbs for about $10 each. new needle valves and seats run about $5 per carb. if you get carbs from a different model then check the jets and change them to your size if req'd. easy and cheap. if your carbs still have good seal around shafts then all you need is a good cleaning and some new needles. DIY for $10 per carb. you can check your shafts by spraying carb cleaner around them while running. if they leak, your rpm will drop when the cleaner gets sucked in. but don't be excessive. intaking carb cleaner can't be good for a 2-stroke.
