Does anyone have any info on a old boat add on accessory you mounted on the lower part on the transom that deverts water to give you Rooster tails when moving.

I have only heard them called Rooster Tails but cannot find anything on them.

Just make a metal scoop of some sort and attach it the transom right at the bottom, in the center or what ever side you want it on.
Trial and error will be your partner.

It's called a soup can. You can read all about it here, and how the iboats mythbusting teams busted it's ability. Other then that, if you buy a Humminbird transducer, the ones with the 'whole' in the mounting bracket, you can have a rooster tail.

Or tilt your motor.

What's the appeal of a rooster tail, anyway? Never understood that.

naw man - you need one on each side!

attach a 45degree cut on the bottom of a 1inch diameter pipe and extend the tip just below the hull.

I can't say it is the smartest thing to do but hey, its your boat.

Thanks for the link but the one I am talking about is a company marketed product that mounted to the boat not dragged. It is also adjustable.

As for the appeal to each his own

Are you talking about a Place Diverter by any chance? It is basically a trim mechanism for a jet drive. Makes for some fun I guess as well. Pretty common on the Colorado River and lakes.

I think that was the most entertaining thread I've read since being here thanks for the link :)

Next lets try cold fusion with a beer bottle and see if we can save the world :D

I second the humminbird transducer idea, I can't get mine to stop throwing a tail.

Re: Add on Rooster Tails

This is everything I know about it.

It was a chromed product made in the 50's that was named Rooster Tail.

It was hard mounted near the bottom of the transom away from the motor (similar to a Hummingbird transducer). It was adjustable so you could have as much or as little of a Rooster Tail as needed or wanted.

I have no doubt I could fabricate something up that would suffice but this will be mounted on my 59 Thunderhawk Sr.
I am restoring this gem to me with the intent of pimping it out in period correct accessories.
The boat will be running twin 35 Evinrude's so it will run two Rooster tails when wanted or needed.
( They were adjustable so I could have no tails or two big ones )
