Hi All,
Bought a used (1989 18 Foot Sea Ray 3.0 with Alpha Drive), the previous owner had it winterized. Before going to the ramp I wanted to make sure it would start (Was going to let it run for just 2-3 seconds - No Water connected) I lowered the drive and and after several attempts it would crank but not start. I went to the Marina bought muffs to hook the drive up via garden hose, turned the water on and bingo it started. Was wondering, is there some type of safety to prevent the engine from starting without water ??
Or did I flooded the engine and it just needed time to dry out ??

Thanks

Who knows what you did or didn't do. If it was winterized properly, I should be a bear to start the first time.
Might want to read the "Summerizing" thread that is a sticky at the top of this forum. There is a lot more to getting a boat ready for the boating season than just starting it.

I know on my boat (2.5l), after coming out of slumber it takes a bit to get it going. Usually runs a bit once it does fire, then the second start it is good. I would say just get muffs and a hose so you can start it up and run it without worry.
