Thinking about getting an 8hp Yamaha for a kicker, Can't get them with electric start. I'm trying to keep cost down that's why I'm not going with the 9.9 electric start. Is it possible to get the 8 and add a charging system when funds allow. Any links to manufacturers of products to do this or sites would be great.

Many Yamahas come with the charging coil already in place, you just need to add the rectifier, so its very easy and doesn't cost much

find the model # and check the parts breakdown to see what comes on the motor.
Like was said some come with lighting coils to run lights, but do not have rectifier/regulator attached to control the output to charge batteries.
Just run lights with the AC output of the lighting coil while the motor is running

Thanks I will take a look into it. Hopefully it does. There are used around with electric start in our area but they all get houred up pretty good on the ocean.
