Hey! I just got a 1986 35HP Johnson. The motor is a MARS motor. I have not been able to figure out the equivalent Johnson model number, might be E35RCDM? The motor runs great and is easy to start. I am not wanting to convert it to an electric start BUT I would like a charging system. Can anybody give some past experience or advice? Would it just be adding a stator, rectifier, and running battery cables to the rectifier?

Also the motor is missing the intake silencer, does anybody know part number for this?

Thanks in advance.

Not knowing what is under the flywheel on that model, I'll take a wild, uninformed guess and say that what you suggest probably is correct. Stator, rectifier and wires. But don't try to take this statement to the bank.

I doubt it ever had a silencer.

No intake silencer on that. You need the charging coils for under the flywheel and the rectifier. You do not need to replace the stator there is already a spot for the charging coils.

Just a matter of terminology. Parts book calls it a stator. Charge coil is the one for charging the ignition power pack. Plate that it all mounts on is a plate and sleeve assy, often called an armature plate.

Reckon that's why they got part numbers.
