Adding a second control station for throttle/shift

I am interested in adding a second control station for my '02 Evinrude 115 FICHT. I currently use a side-mount OMC control box (which includes ignition, trim/tilt, and more beyond just motor control).

Where can I go to get some help? (I don't mind reading...)

I have looked at Morse dual-handle controls, but wonder if they have any prevention from shifting while at WOT? or WOT in neutral? (Two things not possible with my single handle control box).

Do you want to control the throttle from more than one location on the boat? What about steering?

My boat has Morse controls and no, there is nothing to prevent shifting while throttled up.
Why is that a concern?
I've owned my boat for over 5 years and have never 'accidentily' shifted it.

Maybe no concern re: bumping the shift lever. (I have always used a single lever control so it has not been an issue.)

A bigger concern to me is figuring out what electrical items I would need to figure out (ignition switch, trim/tilt and any other system check type things.)

Maybe ask your Evinrude dealer. They should know if it's possible.

Alot of trawlers have multiple stations. Most have throttle, trans, and thruster controls. That might give you a direction to look in.

I am mostly concerned at this point about throttle, shift, trim, ignition at a second station. (I'm thinking the steering won't be a problem - I'm planning on hydraulic.)

I'm trying to turn my commercial gill net skiff into a "convertible" (removable hard-top cabin in the winter, open work skiff in the summer).

what you are talking about is a dual station control. they have a lock out on the control not being used.

Cool project!

As for shifting accidently on dual lever helms, my dad's single engine 25 foot Chris Craft cruiser used a surprisingly poorly designed setup. Can't remember if it was Morse or not but basically the throttle and shift levers angled toward each other at the top where the knobs were, each lever coming out of opposite sides of the control box. The result was a very narrow space between the two levers.

Problem was, often when you grabbed the gear level to change gears, your knuckles would bump the adjacent throttle lever and push it in whatever direction you were shifting. Into reverse was not too bad because you were just knocking the throttle down to the idle stop which you were near anyway.

Shifting forward was a bit more problematic as you could inadvertenly goose the throttle at the same time, with unpleasant results...You always had to be carful to keep your hand on top of the gear lever with your knuckles pointed up. Luckily the boat was relatively heavy so that throttle response was sluggish enough to allow time to grab it back down again if you firewalled it, but you looked like a noob with the boat bobbing and jerking around with associated engine revving. Basically, a human-factors nightmare...

Anyway, long-winded way of suggesting that if you get a dual lever setup for the second helm position, make sure there's enough clearance for you hand, especially if it's a big un!
