Adding a tell tell for 20hp 202hb

Anyone know how to add a tell sign if this motor is pumping water. I just put a new water pump in today and cranked it to let it run a little. Came back about 5 min later while it was running in a barrel and the power head was smoking it was so hot. Cut it off and let it cool. It's not locked up thankfully but I wanna add a tell sign so I know for sure next time

If I remember correctly there is a pipe plug with a recessed hex on top of the head. IF--and that is a big if-- If you can get that plug out with an Allen wrench, you can simply screw in a 90 degree brass plug with a barbed hose fitting.

Sorry but the 202HB is a 1971 and the early 20Hp did not have the allen head screew at the top of the head.
The later models with the 25, 30, 35Hp powerhead (the 25Hp became 20Hp in the early 80s).
These early 20Hp engines do not have any screew at the head soo it is hard to and a telltale.
Some drill a larger hole at the back of the middlegcovers. From factory there was a 1/4 in hole at 1970 and forward. Earlier there was no hole at all.
