Adding a warning buzzer

I'm in the middle of a restoration of a Marlin Ski Magnum 19 foot inboard with a 5.7 Mercruiser.

I bought the following warning system here off Iboats

http://www.iboats.com/Cole_Hersee_M...914830901--**********.186492066--view_id.3876

I understand the installation and wiring, but . . . I really do not want to use a "T" connector to run my sensors as I believe they lead to inaccurate readings.

Is there a secondary location on a small block chevy for an additional oil pressure sending unit, and if so where is it most likely located? Same question for the water temp sender-maybe one of the drain plugs in the water jacket?

Also I am considering running the temperature sensor in my Velvet Drive unit rather than the engine-since it isn't on a gauge and overheating it is a bad thing! Is there a port for a sending unit?

Thanks for any and all info

Re: Adding a warning buzzer

I had one of those warning systems (factory installed) on my '88 Mercruiser 4.3LX V6. I hope the V6 is close to your SBC.

The oil pressure switch for the waning system screwed into the block near the oil filter (port side of motor). The regular pressure sender was in the center of the block in the rear, near the dissy.

Both the water temp sender and water temp switch screwed into the thermostat cover, one on each side. Depending on the year of your motor, the thermostat cover will be different (mine was old style), but since those warning systems are pretty common, I would think you will have plugs for the sensors.

Hope it helps

Re: Adding a warning buzzer

my current temp sensor is in the rear of the intake manifold, but I too have the old style thermostat housing and it does have two plugs that I can use. Glad to know that will work.

The v-6 block is a derivative of the original V-8 block, so in all likelihood there is a plug in the area you mention. I'll take a look. Thanks, it helps a bunch.

Hope to fire the engine for the first time in about 10 days-wish me luck.
