adding an accessory- wiring question

This is probably a very dumb and simple question, but I wasn't quite sure what to type in for a search.

I plan on adding a second battery this season. I fully understand how to set it up (thanks to this forum). I also plan on adding some lights on the back of my transom that will be turned on and off via a waterproof rocker switch. What should the wires from the switch be spliced into?

Hot wire should run in and out of the switch.

They shouldn't be spliced into anything. The +12 volt feed TO the switch should come from the fuse panel. The ground wire for the accessory you are adding gets connected to ground which ultiimately is the negative terminal of the battery but it can be found at many other places (like the ground buss at the helm or at the stern).

Hmm... I guess I'm going to have to figure out where my fuse panel is. I assume it's behind the steering column/ dash.

You would assume correctly...
