I recently purchased a 1991 Larson 190 All American with a 4.3L carb Merc. I would like to add an ignition safety switch. There are sevral sources for this component, was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a good maker, and could you give me a brief runthrough of how this is wired? If I understand correctly, when the lanyard pulls off the switch, it ground out the power to the coil, correct?

If I am understaning you correctly, you would simply locate the kill switch in the desired location, cut the power supply wire coming from the ignition switch, add terminations and route power through kill switch to ignition coil, correct?
Thanks for the info.

No terminations. The switch just opens the connection between the ignition switch and the coil.

Yes, I understand. Cut the wire, make terminations meaning the terminal at the end of the cut wire..... be it a ring connector , blade connector or a simple butt splice connector. I see some cutoffs that use a toggle that can be reset without the safety clip if the lanyard is pulled and kills the switch. Does anyone have one of these and do you like it?

The toggle switch type is what all the Merc 3000 and newer controls come with already installed. Then, if you do get thrown out of the boat, others only have to flip the toggle up to start the boat to go back after you.

What's the difference if other like it or not. If you like it go for it.
