Adding batteries

I'm going to be adding two batteries for a 24v TM

The regular battery space is already occupied by the starter and house batts

The only adequate and easily accessible space for the new batteries happens to be right next to the gas tank

Are there any issues with having batteries located inches from the gas tank? Obviously sparks would be bad if there were any fumes around but it is a fairly well ventilated area.

Thanks

EDIT: the first pic shows the space in front of the tank. Also, I'm going to be putting the batteries in battery boxes

Re: Adding batteries

I don't see anything extremely wrong with the plan.
I would guess the other batteries are in the same "Breathing Space" as the Fuel Tank and the Engine, just not as close.

I would describe that area as "Below Decks" (Not Open Air).

The tanks is neither Filled nor Vented at the tank so there should never be a fume issue in normal operation,
And batteries don't just make sparks every now and then for something to do.

Proceed!

Re: Adding batteries

All great info thanks and yes the other batts are in the same general area but on the other side and a foot or so further back

My main spark concern comes from charging those batteries, or more specific, hooking them up to the charger. But as you said the tank is not filled or vented right there so it should be ok. I'll just make sure that I open it all up before connecting the charger

thanks for the input!

Re: Adding batteries

If you are overly concerned, attach the charger to the batteries first, and then plug in the charger second.

Most Smart chargers are spark free.
They will not supply any charge current until after they detect a battery is connected.
