Hi, I have a 1989 spectrum 1700 it is a 17' aluminum hull. I am thinking of adding a casting platform at the end of the boat on top of the ehngine but are worry about the stability of standing on it... any one have try this and what is the result? Thanks

Re: Adding casting platform

might be too high / unstable unless you have a WIDE beam.IMHO

try standing on something like a 5gal bucket or ice chest & see how it works for ya.

well i have a chair install near the end and the high is righ where i want it to be seating on it and fish it is stable but i have no try standing on it as the chair is too small and not sure the stand would take my weight.....

Re: Adding casting platform

I think it would be too high and unstable, at least in waves. They add those for bow fishing, but that's usually on a flat bottom boat used only on flat water. I removed the splashwell on my 18 ft aluminum Sylvan and added a casting deck about 16 inches off the floor. I think had I gone even 6-8 inches higher it would feel pretty shaky.

Could you build something in front of the splashwell like the newer aluminum boats have?

I plan to build a box in between my stern jump seats that will be a platform and have a pedestal mount on it.

Doubt you can find them. No one makes a seat that thin. You might be able to cannibalize a couple folding fishing seats. I was originally going to do that but it was easier to just build a box between some jump seats.

I've pondered how to make those seats, went to the sylvan showroom to look and still haven't figured it out. I asked if they could order the seats but the price made me choke.

Don't know if this makes sense but:

I'm planning on just putting a fold up bench across the entire back of mine with detachable cushions so it folds down flat, and drilling a hole through it so when it's flat I can still use a pedestal seat.

Home Depot has heavy duty stainless gate hinges that will fold back to about 100 degrees. They have some tension on them so it wont be loose and floppy.
