Adding Deck Access - 17' Run About

Due to having the interior out of my boat in preparation for a remodel (i.e. open screw holes in the deck) and a failed boat cover I now have a small quantity of water under the solid plywood (glass over) floor. This would be the original factory floor.

To rid the water I'd like to add 1 or 2 four inch inspection plates in the floor that I can pop off and pump it dry. Would remain there for any such future occurance.

How do I go about selecting a spot in the deck that is not over top of a stringer or other part of the hull structure?

I could add a drain from the under deck hull interior to the bilge but I don't think that would be effective at removing all the water. It would also be difficult to do as the I/O engine is in the way.

Any other ideas? Would like to hear from someone. I'm sure I'm not the only boater that has gotten water under the decking!:D

first i would be worried about those screw holes.. if water leaked thru there it could have done some damage.. other than that post a pic of the boats someone should be able to point out where the stringers should be

I believe I have figured out where to put my deck plates. Knocking around on the floor I can feel the beam and stringer locations. As soon as I can get my hands on some "screw in deck plates" I'm going to cut in the access.

Not sure how to assess whether any damage was done by water passing through these small holes. What did you have in mind?
