Adding seawater strainers?

My Coho doesn't have any strainers on the seawater intakes. Should I consider adding them? The Grand River which I have a slip on and boat on tends to have a fair amount of small junk, like leaves and little twigs after it rains. The grates on the intake scoops are pretty small but should I be concerned about this getting to the impeller and cooling system? Open cooling and Sherwood pumps by the way. Thanks

Definitely add them. You don't want that crap going thru your engines.

Re: Adding seawater strainers?

I boat mostly on the ICW in South Florida, ususlly anhoring for 2 days at a time. I have had a problem with the generatot's sea strainer packing up on 2 different boats. Generally, every night at anchor, I have to clean out the strainer, and often the hoses and through hull as well. Without the strainer, all that stuff would be going through the generator with no way to clean it out.

Add the strainer!
