Im adding a some speakers and cd player wed day night. And wanted to see if there was anything special I should do when Adding them? Below is the speakers and cd player I orderd. My old one never worked so thats why im replacing it and adding 2 speaker. I Know I should have this hooked up to a switch to turn of when boats in drive way or when not on the lake.
What else shoud I know?????
I have to cut my front speakers like a inch bigger and the back ones need to make a 4 inch cut under the seat to bolt them in.

Also How long do you think I can run the stero before it kills the battery? I have a brand new battery now was thinking about adding another one.
Or just keeping a battery jumper pack I have laying around on the boat just in case :D.

If the panels are removable where you have to cut holes, take them out and do it. As far as the real, i assume you will have to do that laying on your side in the boat. Make sure to draw good visible lines from the template. Use a drill to make a pilot hole and then a jig saw for the actual cut.

Keep all of you wires as out of the way and tied up as possible. Run the rear wires together on one side and route them through as allowable. You were planning on replacing the existing wires, were'nt you? Use a good heavy wire. Never know when you want to add an amp:D.

As far as how long your battery will last, really depends on a few factors.
I can't say for yours, but in my boat I have an Interstate Marine battery. Do not remember the size.
I have a 200watt stereo, two 300watt amps, and six speakers. I have floated and let my stereo run for over an hour on several occasions, along with using other various power sources, and when it was time to start the boat, it never even drug on the battery.
If and/or when your battery starts to drain, you should notice on the stereo face plate that the lights and lcd display will start to "blink".
So, I would say, take the booster pack and play the stereo. You should be fine. Then, over the winter, you could buy a second battery and a 2 bat. switch to install.

There should arlready be a ground and positive wire to the stereo. There also should be a second "hot" wire that will power your memory. This is the wire that should be run to a switch. It is the memory that will drain a weak battery. I ran mine opposite. Putting the main power to the switch and the memory to a constant hot. Has not drained it yet.
You can ALSO run the power and memory wire from the unit to the switch. This will save you a lot of headache with the install. I say this because it appears this is a first for you, so this is a simple, headache free methood.
Both the first and the last have a down side. You will always have to reset your bass, treb., fade, and presets if you use them.
The power and ground are the only existing wires that you should use. (Depending on the condition of them and the length.) If you need longer power, it is best to trace it to the fuse box and run new. The ground can be spliced. Just make sure you use heat shrink over the butt connector.
Again, run NEW speaker wires. Trace and cut out any old speaker wires. This helps keep a clean and rats nest free harness.
Now, all of what I said is for the birds if your stereo was added after the fact. In that case, it will or should, have a red wire with an inline fuse at the battery and a black wire at the battery, that are run to the helm or wherever the stereo was installed. If this is the cae, let me know and I will give you steps for that.
As far as if you were to install amps, now or down the road, you will need heavier wire, and yes, a good heavy ground is a MUST.
If you decide at some point to do this, let me know. I would be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

I hope this helped more than it confused:rolleyes:

If you have a roto-zip, you might want to use that when cutting your new speaker holes. Just make sure you measure twice and cut once. The roto-zip is what I used on the last set of speakers I installed and man it cut like you would not believe.

If you have already done it, it won't matter. If you have not, then here you go.

A jig saw should not snag the carpet. A Roto zip might. On either account, if you do snag it, stop. Pull the strand of carpet off the blade, cut it and start again. When you are done, you can put some glue on the "frayed" ends of the carpet. But for the most part, the speaker will keep the cut ends hidden and secure.
If you want, you could always use a razor knife and cut the carpet fisrt.

Re: Adding Speaker and CD Player anything I should Know.

Hi guys. I have the same problem. Just bought a poly planar mr-40. i have a center consol with a( 1/2/both) battery hookup and dont know much about the install process. ( hope someone can help) I have 1 set on wires (black/red) no fuse then i have (black/red) and red has a fuse. which pair do i use and where do they go. I think red goes to the fuse panel and the black goes to the bus.(i think its called a bus right next to the fuse panel, all my other black wires are connected there) Also, i have a yellow wire with a fuse that i think im supost to conect to the red wire im gona use. SO CONFUSED!!!! lol. One more thing. The red/black wires are to short. What gauge wire should i use to make them longer. thanks
