I have a 1989 bayliner trophy 2302 w/225efi outboard, fuel tank 140 gal.
i plan to add some starboard 1/2" thick by 3" wide the full lenght of the bunks
side by side the bunks are 7 1/2" wide the front are 4" wide by 4' long. boat weight is 5000lbs. will this hurt the bottom or put dents in the bottom? (adding starboard to bunks is to make it easer to lunch and retrive by my self.)

No, it will nto hurt the boat and it will make it easier to slide. HOWEVER...if you are one of the guys that unhooks your winch strap before you back downthe ramp because your boat does not slide on dry carpet, change your ways...

There is another guy on this board that added either starboard or PVC strips to the top of his bunks and whle backing down the ramp, the boat slide right off the trailer onto the ramp... He changed his ways as well...

I have a 23' SeaRay cuddy about the same weight but sits on a roller trailer. I had similar problems with getting unhooked prior to getting the boat into the water. Always had to leave the winch strap attached. I found a device on the net that allows me to launch and retreive the boat with a remote control device that will hold the bow eye secure until I push the button on a hand held remote similar to the remote locks for your car. It works pretty slick. I can undo all the straps and know I'm still securely connected to the trailer. Works for unloading or loading. I did put guides on the trailer to help with alignment when loading. I never have to get in the water anymore. My wife wont back a trailer but as long as I get the trailer backed in properly, all she has to do is pull me out when I drive the boat up into the trailer. I can do all the tieing down somewhere off the ramp knowing I'm attached to the trailer. Its a real timesaver (and boat saver).
