Adding Yamaha Ring Free to old-ish gas

Got my boat about three months ago and have been topping off the gas tank after each trip. Tank was full when I got it. To my knowledge, there has never been any additive put in the tank. I don't think the PO had put any in the full tank that came with the boat. I have only been able to get out on the lake once in the last month and am hoping to go at least one or two more times, maybe more, before it gets cool and I put it up for the season.

My question is should I add the Ring Free to the existing gas that is at least a month old, probably older? Or, should I siphon it out into some cans and use it in my truck, and replace with fresh gas/additive?

A month or so isn't bad for fuel. Go ahead and add fuel treatment and go about your business.

Also, you didn't mention if you have a good water seperator / fuel filter. If not then add one to your fuel system.

You cant [renew ] old gas. Not too famaliar with ring free. But if u r gonna put ur boat in storage U would prob b doing yourself a favor by using and or removing [ using it up in the boat would be alot mor fun IMHO :D as much of whats in there as possible Then Stabel-ize fresh and pref non- ethanol non oxygenated fuel. Winterize, fog drain etc .

Re: Adding Yamaha Ring Free to old-ish gas

It will probably be parked from Nov until early March. The Yamaha dealer told me that I should keep a full tank of gas with the ring free additive at all times, even while it is sitting over winter. The Ring Free is sold by Yamaha, and is called for in the manual. I will use it at least until the extended warranty period has expired. It is a carbon buildup reducer. I am not sure if it also a fuel stabilizer. I guess I need to figure that out and add some stabil if not. He suggested that I go out about once a month and connect a water hose and let it run for a good bit.

I do have a water separator installed. How often should I replace the filter? I believe the dealer told me to do it at the start of every season, but I would assume that all depends on how many hours I use the boat. It is a 2006 and only has 54 hours, but I have no idea if it has ever been changed. I will definitely change it out before next season begins.

You don't know how old some of that fuel is. Drain it and run it in the cars, then put a few gallons of fresh gas in the boat with Yamaha fuel stabilizer and run it long enough to reach the motor. Worry about running the Yamaha ring free in the spring if you want. Fill with fresh fuel in the Spring. I always changed my Yamaha 10 micron fuel filter twice a year (we don't have seasons here).

Think I will go ahead and drain. Thanks for the advice.

next season, keep it full, and use both ring free and a stabilizer (I use startron).

If you leave it "empty" for 4 months, the little bit in the bottom could get right funky. I'd throw some stabilizer in there after draining for that reason. Then when you fill up in the spring, add the correct proportions on top of that.
