hello and happy new year,
I have a question, has anyone ever used some kind of adhisive to mount a transducer to the bottom rear of the logs? on a pontoon. I dont have a bracket on my log to mount them, and I dont want to drill any holes. if someone has used adhisive, what kind ( brand ) and how did it hold up. I thought of (JB weld). but i figured I would ask the member here that have a lot more knowledge. thank you in advance
Jack

Re: adhisives

I used 3M double sided tape on my AL boat. The thick stuff (about 1/16") Still there after 3 years. But my boat hull was flat and yours is probly curved. Don't know if it would work if piled up to get a flat surface. I cleaned all surfaces with braKE CLEANER FIRST TO GET A REALLY CLEAN SURFACE. Still have some tape but no package with the part number on it.

Edit: Believe it or not the tape needs to cure for a couple of days before putting in the water.

I took some alum bar stock from Lowes and made a band for mine last year and it worked just fine.

Not familiar with pontoons, so not sure exactly what the "log" is - but, I mounted a transducer on the flat transom of my aluminum skiff using 3M 4000 UV. Holding perfectly so far after about 9 months. Somewhere on here I've posted photos showing the mount hardware I used.

Re: adhisives

we have used standard 2 component adhesives sucessfully for subsea applications on various bits and pieces. The resonably priced brandnames are probaby all the same, have not tried the no brand supermarket types. Tape it or cable tie it on tight for 24hrs untill the adhesive is set.
mix the 2 componts well.

you could allways test attach something else first just to test it if you are worried about losing your transducer

Neat idea. I'll have to remember that when I get around to building mine. I'm kind of wary about the welded on brackets catching on something and tearing a hole in the toon but this looks secure and it shouldn't damage the toon if something happens to it.

I did the exact same thing. I did not have the brackets as a previous owner cut them off. I got a piece of aluminum, cut to the size to hold the speedo wheel and the transducers. I attached with the JB WELD marine. I was not sure how well it would work, but it didnt move all of last season.
