I have the clymer manual which does not help at all. Mine is a 96 75hp force. I realize the idle screw needs to be lightly seated clockwise then 360degrees out. There is a warning on the engine saying anyadjustments will require linkage adj? I have never used a timing light or strobe. When I went to the lake I could only go 19mph at 3500rpm thats a 1000lb 17alum with the 230lb motor 600lb gear with a 17degree prop.

We have the same boat/motor combo. and I'll get 37MPH @ 5000RPM on smooth lake. Sounds like yours' is a little ill. If you have a compression leak around your sparkplug, that'll make a difference. Adjusting the idle does take a slight linkage adjustment however all you'er doing is raising or lowering the idle speed. Is yours idling at 750RPM as specified? If so, don't mess with it. Your high speed timing MAY be off but don't change anything until your motor shows good compression(100-130PSI approx.) on all three cylinders. They all don't have to be the same compression, just as long as they are within 15% of each other. Until the compression issue is satisfied, any attempts at tunnig your motor is futile.
