Adjust motor horizontally?

I put in a new gimbal bearing yesterday and got ready to line it up. the alignment tool hit the right side of the splines. I could see the spline marks in my grease. It looks like it may need to move about 1/8th of an inch to get the alignment tool to go in. Is there a way to move the engine along it's horizontal axis?

The old bearing would allow the tool to go into the splines. It wasn't perfect, but at least it went in. I measured around the gimbal bearing and it was the same distance to the lip all the way around. Leads me to believe that it is in there flush and not crooked.

Thanks,

E

Ayuh,... The inner bearing is Gimbeled inside the outer race,...
Knock it side to side, to start the alignment process...

Is this the case even when my alignment tool won't go into the splines? The tool just butts up to the edge of the splines and doesn't actually go into the splines. Whack it so it does go in?

Did you even open that link I posted? If you did, and you read the thread, then you should probably find a mechanic to work on your boat.

Yes, I did read the thread. thank you for that. The instructions state to "insert the solid end of the alignment tool through the gimbal bearing and into the engine coupler splines" and since I can't get the tool into the splines, I just wanted to get clarification before I started whacking away with a hammer.

Ayuh,... Ya don't need a Hammer...
Like I said above, "The inner bearing is Gimbeled inside the outer race,...

Stick the bar through the bearing, 'n wiggle it, so's it lines up with the coupler....

Thank you for clarifying Bond-o. And thank you both for your responses.
