I have a AQ130D on my deck boat and the rocker arms have a little play in them.. What are the steps to adjust the clearance on these or the "lash" ?

Do I need to use a shim or just feel for it ? Will it hurt anyting by adjusting these ?

Would this help compression any ? I can hear them smacking a little while running ...

Thanks!

Go to the "adults only"s sticky at the beginning of this section and download a copy of the manual. Once you read the instructions in the manual, it should be much clearer.

OK I read it a few times .. but still a little confused ...

So I need to remove the valve cover to get to the valves then check the clearance according to the manual ... I can do this without removing the head right ?

I see how to replace the bushings in the manual for the rocker arm but not how to adjust lash .. I know I would loosen the lock nut and turn to adjust the lash but what is the clearance for the lash ? Can I damage anything if I get the clearance off ?

What is good to seal the valve cover back up with if I cannot get a new gasket ? I want to have it ready by Friday :)

Would adjusting these help with compression some ?

Thanks,

PLease tell me I have this right before I break something ...

From what I have been reading from the internet I can set the lash so that the rod is feeling resistance then go 1/2 turn passed that...

With Cyl #1 at top dead center I would adjust the lash on rocker 1,2,3 and 5

With Cyl #4 at top dead center I would adjust the lash on rocker 4,6,7, and 8

Does this sound right or or do I just worry about the position of the cylinders when checking valve clearance ?

Thanks .. I am going to try this tonigh ..
