Adjusted my cables and Shift Interuptor Switch with the muffs on last weekend.

Got the timing pretty much PERFECT for the microswitch to kick on the second the drive starts to shift gears.

Only problem? I read in the "Adults Only" section that these do not function properly out of water.

Did I screw up on this one? When I get to the water, am I going to have to re-adjust everything on the boat to get it to run right?

Anyone else do their adjustments out of the water.. Boat is a 87 Thundercraft with a 4.3 and Cobra outdrive.

The adjustments are done per the OMC specs (google Stuart Hastings OMC for good instructions) on land. You shouldn't shift gears on land because to function properly it needs the resistance of the water.

Damn. That's what I was affraid of.

So when I get it in the water the shift point is going to be different than on land? The moment the drive starts to shift into foward or reverse in releation to the front controls is going to be different once the boat is in the water?

Sounds like I will be spending part of the day working on the boat tomorrow. :(

If anyone comes across this thread again in the future on a search:

Do not bother adjusting your shift interupter switch with the muffs on. The boat WILL act differently once you get it in the water. Get it "close," then plan on going to the lake to finish the adjustments off.

On the bright side: mine is great now. ;)
