Re: Adjusting Crank Position Sensor?
timing can be checked like any other spark engine with the use of a standard timing light.
lean sneeze will have NOTHING to do with the CPS or the TPS and everything to do with correctly set up carbs and clean carb passages.
be aware that motor is CCS controled and may not spark on 2 cylinders sometimes one cylinder depending on RPM.
the CPS position is pretty much fixed by the screw positions but the resistance and the output can be tested.
I will be gone for 2 weeks,1 week in Orlando and another at a Yamaha school in kennesaw.
if you still need the wink blinky Ill look up my merc manual or find the K&L part number.
if your timing ever defaults to 7* BTDC and it idles fast look for a failed sensor or incorrect sensor outputs.
timing on that engine is computer controled by inputs from various sensors.
at a warm idle, code 1, you should see about 6* ATDC and about 18* BTDC at WOT.
the pulser coil mounting location is physically set at 7* BTDC so if something fails idle speed/timing will revert to the fixed timing and will be about 1100 RPM. depending on what failed will determine if any additional advance is given.
