This is for a Johnson 70, if it matters - the instructions I have seen for installation Boyesens include replacing the orifices to run a bit richer, to prevent the possibility of backfiring. If I remember right, the instructions indicate that even a single backfire could damage the Boyesens. Yet the instructions for setting the idle mixture call for leaning the mixture until the engine just starts to sneeze back. So my question is about reconciling those two things - how do I set the idle mix with Boyesens without damaging them?

That is for engines with adjustable needle model carbs ,which 70hp dont have, you will have to go down .001-.002 in idle jets size.

Actually, they switched over to an adjustable low speed circuit in 1989 - I should have been more specific.

Anyone? I assume the Boyesens don't prevent adjusting your carbs - or do they?
