I have a miss in my 2001 Evinrude ficht 90 hp engine. It is more noticeable between 1,500 & 4,000 RPM. I have the software to be able to adjust it with but I am not sure of the best way to adjust it. Do you just adjust it by ear and do one cylinder at a time or all at once? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Wayne

Re: Adjusting Injectors

Why do you say that?
If you mess with the injector values you can lean a cylinder out but if you have version 1.42 you cant adjust/install a injector anyway.

You software only adjusts the injects a small amount richer or leaner for testing purposes only. They revert to their factory settings as soon as you turn the key off.

Your motor will have a normall bit of roughness in the 1200-1800 rpm range depending on its state of tune and how it is propped. Carbureted motors have the same roughness about that rpm as the carburetor changes from low speed to high speed jets.

Re: Adjusting Injectors

i think a slight roughness in low and midrange is normal here. afaik the ficht -rams switch from fully lean to uniform combustion at 1800 rpm but keep as lean as possible in midrange and enrich only approaching WOT, maybe its the price for teaching a 2stroke to be as efficient as a 4stroke?

my 150hp ficht runs also a little rough in low and midrange . i started to overlook it .

Re: Adjusting Injectors

Don't play guessing games with it. Check your compression. Check your fuel for contamination. Check fuel pressure. Check Evdiags and see if any of the voltages change from the norm at the speed it misses. Do a snapshot at the time of the problem. If you have the application to change injector richness and leanness then you have the diagnostic tools to check the engine. Besides if you had to adjust an injector on these engines then you got a problem with it. You can't readjust it permanently anway, only the factory can do that.

Thanks for all the input...I will leave well enough alone.

Re: Adjusting Injectors

you can send your injectors off and have the cleaned and flow/patter tested. this is probably a good idea.

Thanks..That is an option and I will do that if it starts getting worse. I know the ethanol we now have in the gas is not any good for them.

And you know that how?? And what exactly does 10% ethanol do to the injectors???

Re: Adjusting Injectors

ethanol is a food based product and leaves a white powdery residue in your fuel lines/chambers after sitting for 3 or more weeks, especially if it sits for months. this residue can be in particles larger than 2 microns which is the largest that a average injector can pass. this has caused a lot of fuel related issues in EFI outboard motors.

Re: Adjusting Injectors

Sparkie you are 100% correct when i uncovered my boat after sitting for 3 months the clear glass fuel filters had whitish green chunks in them and that was with seafoam and startron in the gas. I have seen lots of carbs over the past two years with the same issue and not only on boat motors. best thing is to run motors atleast once a month. I also noticed when i put the carbs back on the motor i got rid of there was sediment in the bowls and that was after removing them at the end of the season last year. The new fuel is horrible i dont care what anybody says.

Re: Adjusting Injectors

food in your gas = a really bad idea.
MTBE works better, and with all the accusations that it could possibly contaminate ground water, none of it was ever proven and as far as anyone could find MTBE was shown to be a lesser threat to ground water than other chemicals that are still being used in gasoline. With all the research done and all the gas spills/leaks, there was not even one case where MTBE was proven to have caused any health issues or ground water contamination at dangerous levels. the MTBE scare was fabricated by the feds through the EPA to accelerate the use of ethanol because it was part of the agenda of the global warming crowd. stupid bunch of nuts.

Re: Adjusting Injectors

After thinking about it for a while I came up with the conclusion that the problem lies in the fuel injectors. When I bought this motor, it had only 118 hours on it and it is a 2001 model. This sounds like it had been setting up quiet a bit allowing that ethanol to set up. I believe I will pull them out have them cleaned. Will most Evinrude dealers clean them or do you have send them out.

Re: Adjusting Injectors

Pulling the injectors apart and clean them with carb/choke cleaner is almost less work than cleaning a carb. However if you are leaving your engine for more than a couple of weeks, run with the 'Ficht conservation fuelmix' (Fogging, oil, 2+4). But before running, drain the fuel chamber or you may have to run for a very long time!!
