Now that my boat is actually running, I was hoping I could get some advice on adjust the throttle cable, idle adjustment screw and the small adjustment screw. New carb with a mechanical choke. The boat wont run with the idle turned down low and when I turn it up it CLUNKS into gear. I don't think the tach is correct. Again, I hate carbs but I'm stuck with it for now.

Over many years when the throttle handle gets old the grease inside the control needs to be redone. When this happens using throttle only in the forward direction has enough friction to move the shift cable also. A method to get around it is go throttle only but go to the reverse side. Going REV usually allows it to work without going into gear

As for adjusting the cable. Remove the throttle cable from the carb and warm the motor up. After motor is warmed up and idling at correct RPM, adjust the barrel nut so the cable just slide into position on carb and barrel nut holder. Once it just slides on, remove cable and turn barrel nut out one more turn and install. The one additional turn puts a slight pressure on carb to keep it closed against the carb stop screw
