I have a 140 hp Outboard on a 16' 10'' open bow sea ray
Is it the closer the motor to the boat the faster it will plain out or the further away from the boat???
And If I'm just cruising around all day no towing I would of'course want to plain out faster???

Re: Adjusting the outboard to plain out

You will generally tuck the motor as close to the boat as possible when starting out (trimmed in); as the boat planes out, or climbs on top of the wave the bow is pushing, you will begin to trim the motor out away from the transom of the boat. As to how soon you will begin to do this is a matter of feel for your individual boat. You will have to play around with settings to get to know what works best for you.
