I need to learn how to properly adjust my idle, idle stop, spark advance and my throttle.. I have a 1966 Merc 950 I just had the Rotor replaced, two points replaced, new spark plugs, and just rebuilt my fuel pumps.. I am looking at trying to start my motor tomorrow with my muffs.. Any help on how to properly adjust my motor would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,
Mort

If the manual is confusing I don't know if I can help but I will give it a try. If you are using a timing stop to time the engine do it first, if the engine has the timing decals and you are going to use a timing lite wait till after the carb adjustment. With the engine in the water in gear adjust the idle speed and mixture and if you are using a timing light next set the max spark advance with the screw on the idle speed and timing plate in front of and above the dist. then with the engine shut off move the throttle till the dist just touches the max spark screw at that point the secondary pickup lever on the top of the carb should just touch the pickup lever on the dist if it does not then loosen the 2 small bolts on the plate slightly with a 5/16 wrench and move the plate till the 2 just touch. Piece of Cake!

Mort...get the manual and study it carefully with the engine in front of you. What are the problems you're having with the motor? Link & Sync advice does exist in the FAQ section. What is the S/N of your motor ?

I will grab the s/n for you tomorrow.. I havn't actually been able to get some water source to try and start my motor yet so I have been working on wiring. The problem was last year it wouldn't idle unless I kept hitting the choke button.. I think the fuelpump rebuild could have fixed this problem but I wanted to know how to adjust it for when I take it down to the water to start it..
