There is a screw and sleeve on the rod connecting the throttle lever at the side of the engine with the roller on the timing advance cam. 1985 Evinrude 28 hp. I hope I am describing them clearly enough. I assume that you slide the sleeve along the shaft and fasten it somewhere. Where? I assume that when the engine speeds up from idle, the throttle linkage reaches the sleeve it starts to advance the timing.
I am guessing that you adjust the sleeve to the place where it engages the advance mechanism at the same time the throttle plates start to open and the roller hits the timing mark on the cam. Is that right? I have adjusted the linkage so the roller is between the marks on the cam when the throttle plates start to move. The manual says to do that, but I cannot find in the manual where to adjust the advance sleeve.
