Can anyone help me with a few questions. First whats the advantage or disadvantage of a prop with 3 fins vs 4 fins. I am having trouble finding a 14x17 3 fin left rotation at a decent price but have found one with four fins at a decent price.

Thanks in adavnce for the help!

I may be a renegade here, but so be it. A 4 or 5 blade prop can provide you with increased low end torque over a similar 3 blade, but once up and running all those blades get in the way and the result is lowered top end performance. Besides, those props are usually SS which is heavy and costs more money per prop. You hear people say that top end is not a consideration, but I never had a person to admit that it was true......deep down inside, once they tasted the honey of increased speed, they can never get over the euphoria.....sorry we are human. Grin.

My solution is to use a Ported SS prop that supplies the top end you want at the upper end of your engines rpm limit with the load that you normally carry. The ports relieve hole shot pressure from the engine allowing you to come up out of the hole with a big load and move along....supporting that, with tail heavy boats, a quality set of adjustable trim tabs will round out the day.

MY 2C and bet you it's dead .... on.

so in laymen tears 4 blades will help me pull out faster and get to plain faster? You mentioned a ported 4 blade, can I port it myself? iboats has one a a reasonable price but I dont think its ported.

Now how much speed do you think I would lose?

Re: Anyone have a prop for sale?

I lost 3-5mph going to the 4 blade, sucks but is the only downside. Gained pulling power for tubes/skies. Gained a lower plaining rpm. Boat is so smooth plaining out and cruising along at 2600 rpm. The biggest surprise was the steering, it is more responsive, and holds steady. You can move around the boat (Dont!) without holding onto wheel. It is amazing how well it holds. I cant explane this, but it never did this before the 4 blade. And the thrust from 2600 to 4300 rpm it's like a whole new boat. I'm running a 14 1/4 x 19, if i changed to a 14x18 4 blade i may even gain my speed back.

So right now I'm running a 14x19 3 blade, going to a 14x17 4 blade will help me get out of the hole faster and I may not lose any speed!

I think so. I would be sure at a 14x18 though. I think speed loss would be minimal. I only lost 5 mph, but my props a 14 1/4 x 19, a 14x18 4 blade may have worked better. Plus all the gains, far outweight the mph loss in my opinion.

I only lost 5 mph, but my props a 14 1/4 x 19

Curious, what was your speed before the 4 blade and did you go from a 19P 3 blade to a 19P 4 blade?

Re: Anyone have a prop for sale?

14x19 3 blade 48 mph 13x17 3 blade stiletto did 52 mph, which was amazing to me but it took a while to get there. I'm at 43-44 mph ish now. I think a switch to the 14x18 would gain me some of my speed back, and perhaps help me with my holeshot as well. Don't get me wrong, the 14 1/4 x19 4 blade is very good compaired to the previous props, but i have to try the 14x18 sooner or later....

Heading to Bart, NY. up by Lake Ontario. Taking my 2 nephews home. Going to be like 2 miles from the lake, but don't want to drag the boat. This is when i wish my boat was smaller and lighter..

So two boats and 4 familys will be some fun camping and boating! I will be going on the Mon this weekend, just did a complete tune up on the boat and ordered the new prop and hope to have it to test also. We will have to hook up sometime out on the water! Thanks for the info btw!

Absolutely, 24' Red and white Celebrity Cuddy, dragging a tube, stop by anytime! If you went with the 4 blade, i think you will like it. Pulling tubes and such will be alot better. What size motor in your boat?

4 blade will be great on that! But it has to be sized right! Check this site for props, sometimes on sale..
