Advice Needed Idle problem 5.7 2 barrel Mercarb

The boat starts, warms up & will idle @ 600 rpm with the shifter 1/4 forward. When I place the shifter in neutral it will stall. The lower shift cable is new. All the filters were changed, fuel pump good tries adjusting idle screw Is this an adjustment to the cable or a carb problem?

Sounds like your idle may be set low and you are idling on the idle up cam from the choke, when you give it any throttle the idle up cam will drop and you are at too low of an idle. Idle should be set after warm up and when choke is open.

But hard to say for sure with out seeing.

try doing the same with the shift interrup switch disconnected.

sounds like the new lower shift needs adjusted. Needs to be in the water, follow the shift adjust procedure in the manual. May have to be fiddled with a little on the water for the final adjustment.
