Ok, I have a 1980 Mercury outboard. When I turn the key, no spark (the controls came off another boat). How can I test to see if the motor is getting a spark or if the key switch is bad? Also, I need the spark plug gap for this motor. I am going to get some new NGK's for it today. Also, when I hook up the cables... which one goes to the throttle and which cable controls the gears? I am assuming the one on top controls the speed. What size screw should I get to attach the cables to the motor? I know it's not much to go on... but I would appreciate any input.
