Advice on Gas Cap for vintage Gas Can

Long story short - I bought an old 70s pontoon with a 93 Evinrude 2-stroke. Motor runs great but the motor was losing fuel pressure. Squeezing the bulb didn't help much. The hose is new so I switched tanks. I pulled out an old Chrysler Tote Tank that I had sitting in the shed and everything worked great. However, the top of the gas cap fell apart. There should be a plastic shroud (see bottom pic) over the red float indicator that has the air screw valve. The shroud crumbled to my touch and I'm left with this below. The pontoon sits out on the lake all summer and I don't want rain going down that hole in the center of the gas cap.

Temporarily I threw a baggie over the cap. It's not a standard threaded gas cap but has the two arms that twist into place. I searched all over the internet but can't find a vintage replacement. Any thoughts on finding a replacement cap to keep the rain from mixing with my gas?

Here is a picture that I found online of the tank with the gas cap with vent screw and shroud in place.

Thanks. I think that a lot of these modern gas caps are made for plastic cans that have threads to screw the cap on. The metal cans just had angled fins for a quick "lock" of the cap.

If you do find a cap, it would probably be in just as bad shape, or if its an NOS it would cost way more than its worth.

Just buy a new can.

Try Doug Penn for a cap. It will most likely be a used part.

Laing's outboards for a gasket set for the OMC tank after you take it apart. If you luck out and the horn is merely plugged, you're good to go. If you need a new pickup horn, or a new cap if the vent is shot, cost will add up. My guess is that a refurb will run between $25 - $50. Maybe $75 if you need ALL the parts. Before you proceed, look at the bottom of the tank. If its rusty on the outside it may not be worth it.

A new Moeller tank is about $65.

I have rebuilt several old tanks, not because i saved money, but because i needed period correct for the Antique Boat Shows.

Thanks for the responses. I have two generally good tanks and a third at home, so I hate to throw something away if possible.
