Advice on selecting prop

Need some advice/tips on getting a new prop for my boat. I got a 1993 Maxum (1700SR) 17 foot boat with a 3.0L Mercruiser. Just bought the boat in the October and had a couple runs. It currently has a Quicksilver Power 2 SS Varible pitch prop (like having a two speed transmission, pics below). Its adjustable but I am having a hard time setting it. The guy I bought the boat from has it set for 4-6 people on the boat. When me and my girlfriend go it over revs as theres not enough weight on the boat. Im reving at 5000rpm before the prop shifts. Im thinking of using this prop for tubing and water sports and looking to get another prop for cruising and maybe to get top end speed. What would you guys recomend? 14x19, 14x20? 3 blade or 4 blade? Thanks for the tips.

Have you tried easing up momentarily at about 4800 see if it will shift?
If you read the stickies at the top of the page it will help you understand what we need to make a prop selection.We need your pitch,rpm and speed at wot.

Ayuh,... What have you tried,..??

That prop should be capable of easily Overloading that motor....

Once you get those dents out of it, it should be a Great prop for All your uses....

I run the Other shifting prop,...
The L&S Torque-Shift... Great Prop....

Yes I tried and it wont shift. I would have to Slam it all the way up then it will shift but it hits like 5200rpm sometimes which is too much for these motors I heard

I havent tried much, I just unscrewed the 3 screws and moved it over but I have no idea what I am doin lol. Didnt come with instructions. I could not find one online either

I would think it works on some sort of cintrifigal effect. Perhaps spring loaded. There may be arrows or a notation indicating increase or decrease of the shift range.
