advice/opinion on stringer length

so ive removed the transom and the stringers in my 19 foot renken leaving about an inch of the old fiberglass stringer shell. my question is there are 4 stringers in my boat. the 2 outboard stringers measure 8 foot 9 inches long and the inner ones measure 12 foot 5 inches. i know i will have to join 2 peices to make the inner stringers but is the extra 9 inces on the outboard ones neccessary? they are only 2 inches in height. the inner ones are 5 and a quarter.

also when soaking the plywood with the resin, do you put hardener in it?

It's totally up to you whether you run it the full length or not, but if they didn't feel it needed to be that long, it wouldn't be.

There is never a time when you would use resin without the correct amount of hardener being added.

might get an annoying resonance if all the stringers are the same length,
sympathetic harmonics and all that,
but it will go away when the cracks start to form under the hull !,
its to spread the load over a wider area, so it makes sense to copy.

just one more thing....you said..... "soak the wood in resin"

just coating the wood in resin wont do you any good...it needs to be glassed as well.......resin is brittle by it self...it will crack and you will get moisture intrusion.

in the hull ext thread i soaked some small peices....but they were glassed in after.....(that was a very unuasual situation)

to properly coat a peice with resin.....paint it good with resin....follow manufacturers instructions on mixing the catlyest....and use a proper measuring device.

wait till its allmost hard....then apply more resin and add fiberglass matt. (chopped strand matt, or product with matt attached...matt side against the wood)....roll out any air bubbles.....dont use too much resin....saturate the glass...no more no less.
