I am looking for some advice on this one. I have two motors with issues that I need to address, in order to make ONE complete engine. This is for personal use and needs to last.
1: 2000 175HP 2-stroke with 700hrs (isn)
Good: All new electronics
Bad: lost a big end bearing on one cylinder since the motor was submerged and not correctly recovered (except for new electronics). Also about 2 inches of skeg is chipped off.
2: 2004 150HP 2-stroke with I believe low hours
Good: very well maintained and hardly used
Bad: someone messed up the oiler and seized the motor.
SO, which motor is better to rebuild and what can swap between them? Should I bother doing it myself or are there some pretty affordable shops that rebuild these powerheads? Shops that are actually known for good quality work. From what I can tell the rebuild kit is $1,700 then I have to get the block machined which is probably in the $300-$400 range. I can do the work myself, not worried much about that.
OR, should I just repower with a good used motor and sell these two off as parts?
