Hi all,
So I just purchased some stainless steel hand rails that I want to mount on my Islander 221. I want to mount them on the angle of where the cabin extension meets the cockpit area. My concern is how to get the interior pieces off so I can put a backer on the bolts. Any ideas would be great. I am not sure how well these pics will come out but I will try.

Jet M what is it you are trying to show us?? Is it the two upright posts?? If it is those will Probably be bolted to the rail and the nuts will be under the flat side cover. I put backing strips under all rail mounts with a strip of aluminum bought at Lowes.

Jet, I am lost. But man do I love your boat so feel free to post up any time buddy!

Edit: Read it again....

I am guessing you want to be able to get behind some panels to get the hardware on? And you can't?

Prolly need some more photos/description maybe.

Cheers!

Ok so I went out and took some pics. I hope this makes it more clear as to what I am wanting to do. Sorry the pics are sideways.
So how do I get the interior pieces off to get under that lip?

Oh man, I got nothing Jet. Sorry, I wish I could help ya. I can see your dilemma easy enough though.

All that is going through my pea sized brain is coming all the way through the pad there and trimming it out nice. Or, some sort of toggle deal like a big drywall anchor sort ya know. That, or trashing all that nice vinyl to get behind it.

Maybe one of the smarter Starcrafter's will jump in.

Cheers buddy!:D

That might work, how ever I want to put a backing on the underside for support. I dont want to pull it out of the aluminum. I would like to put a piece of aluminum on the underside behind the padding. The last thing I want is to grab ahold to get on the boat and have it pull out. Well more my wife grab it and it comes off. I would never hear the end of that.

You Borrow a digetal camera and down load to computer then post the photos. It will be a fun project ONCE you get rid of things.
Remember Keep the material you remove and photo what you remove before you remove it to asure you remember where it went.

I have done that more than once when I was an auto mechanic. I still have to figure out how to get the interior apart to get in where I want to mount them. That is more what this is all about Pugetsound. I need to know how to remove the inside panels to install the hand rails.
