I'll be "winterizing" my 1970 Johnson 60hp in the next couple weeks. Some people say to run it until the gas runs out and others say to just add stabil/seafoam and leave it.

What are your thoughts on the matter for an older outboard? I run some Seafoam in the gas on every fill up.

Also, I'm assuming it wouldn't hurt to fog the cylinders?

I'll be draining the LU oil and filling it back up with the Type C stuff it requires.

Thanks for help

Agreed----run the gas out of the carburetors to keep them from gumming up during storage.----Best thing you can do for the motor and your wallet !!

1970 60hp evinrude.. I like to winterize those by removing from boat and dropping in the deep part of the lake. Only the top gets frozen, so on the bottom, no worries about freezing

Not helpful STB, not helpful at all. Clearly gip has been running it and intends to continue running it.

Sarcasm doesnt always translate well remotely via the internet...

If you cant suggest anything to further protect the motor, refrain from commenting.

I'm sorry, I apologize. I was only kidding. Those are good motors. I had one, 3 cylinder, electric shift. On mine, I pulled the fuel line and ran some stabil gas through it and sprayed the carbs, then I drained the lower unit to make sure it didnt have any water in it. Otherwise it may freeze and crack. I also pulled the prop to check for fishing line, etc.. Then was able to grease spline, fill with fluid, etc and store it. EDIT -- Also you can pull the plugs and spray foggin oil in there and turn flywheel by hand.
