I have a need to replace the prop (damaged due to accident) on a 9.9 High Trust
(so I am told by a dealer) 4 st. 1986 Yamaha long shaft that I use as a kicker.
It had
11 3/4 x 9 1/4 plastic prop; but it seemed to be “ventilating” when I go pass 1/2
on the throttle. ( or was it “laboring” with lower RPM than what the engine was
intended for; I am not sure -no RPM gauge). I understand that a lower pitch
(like some refers to is "High Trust") prop would enable the motor to go at
or close to it’s max potential RPM at WOT .

Questions:
-Does anyone know if the prop I had was a “High Trust” prop?
-If it’s not, what’s the correct Yamaha part number for it?
Thanks for your input!
ps. Boat = 1982 17ft central console BW, main= 1982 90hp i6 Merc.

It's venting because the blades are flexing at half-throttle...it's not gonna push that boat at WOT with out venting in most cases. I would run a good aluminum in a slightly less pitch and take some load off of that thing...

walleyehed,
Thanks for your opinion; That confirms my suspicion that indeed it was venting! Okay, I'll go ahead and get a "slightly less pitch" (like 7" pitch ?) aluminum prop. Anybody got one to sell?
Thanks again Captain!

I think a 7P would be a good choice...
