Hi.

I have the genuine Mercury Manual but I thought I'd ask here for pointers. The purpose of the "rebuild" is general maintenance with the hopes of improving idle and mid-range performance. All suggestions will be appreciated.

Are there any typically "forgotten areas" on these carbs? Should welch plugs be removed? Should I soak or just spray? Any problem areas and pitfalls that I should be aware of?

I made myself a float height adjustment ruler...and I have a new gasket set. I have shied away from getting the full re-build kit ($60 each)...but I will probably get the float kit which includes the needle and seat.

Sierra is OK? In this application their prices are a lot lower than Mercury.

Thanks folks

I cleaned carbs and installed new gaskets with needle and seat on my 850 from sierra and then the primer bulb never got hard, the new sierra needle seats leaked!! found merc needle seats installed and didn't leak!, conclusion: go OEM on the needle seats.
