Afghanistan war hits home

I just learned this morning that my cousin's son was killed in Afghanistan after less than a month of deployment.

Our entire family was so proud of Chase attending West Point. He was a fine young man and son.

The one thing another cousin told me this morning was that her first thought was of departed Uncles and parents, grandparents, etc that greeted Chase on his arrival to the hereafter.

Sad day here.

that's awful to hear. i never really appreciated the line about america's finest until i spent a little more time with some of our young warriors. they really are incredibly talented people willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country. hard working, family oriented and respectful describes 99.9% of our soldiers, marines, etc.

compare that to some of the individuals we're left with who don't serve and it's an even bigger tragedy for our country.

prayers and hopes of peace for you and your family.

I was up at Ft. Campbell last night for a little while and got to see the 101st working out a little bit. When things are so quiet and stable at home, we often forget the immeasurable costs to maintain our freedom.

Tyme, please thank your family for enduring that cost and extend our deepest sympathy for your loss.

Sorry I missed this earlier, Just now caught the Video post.

Salute to the fallen.

I have a boy who did a year deployment there. He went thru a couple of shellings and one "outside the wire" vehicle retrieval. I am glad he did not tell me about any of that until he came back. If I allowed myself to dwell on it very long while he was there I would get stressed out.

So sorry for your family's loss.

Tyme, my deepest sympathies extended to you and your family.. I thought this poem would be very suitable for this thread, may you find some comfort in it...

We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new.

We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too.

We think of you in silence
We often speak your name.

Now all we have are memories
And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part

God has you in His keeping
We have you in our Heart.

God Bless your cousin, and all our brave men and women who sacrifice everything for the ones they do not know...

Semper Fi!
