ive finnished my floor[almoast] and im going to have my boat painted wich can take a few months. my boat is under a carport etc . how long can the exposed epoxy be exposed to the uv rays while it is waiting to be carpeted . should i just paint it wile waiting for protection from the sun . i was thinking bilge paint all over or somthing . i need to do the bilge area and the ski lockers transome etc . the paint has to be able to have carpet glue stick to it.

Epoxy will start to discolor within a week or two of direct sun. If it is under a carport and doesn't get any direct sun, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you paint, will you need to remove it before you paint the whole boat or do you plan to paint the floor separately? If yes to the latter, make sure you use a paint with UV protection.

If it's in the carport I wouldn't worry about it, worst case put a blue tarp over the exposed surface. You said you were going to carpet it, most paint won't hold up well under the wet carpet and will start to peel off, your carpet is glued to the paint, but the paint isn't stuck to anything.

ill carpet the floor and part of the ski locker . but the rest of it has to be covered with some sort of uv protected paint i would think . evan in the carport it seems to be yellowing.

MMMM...I would consider an alternate flooring material myself. Do a search on Marine Vinyl Flooring in this section. My thoughts on boat carpet are: Carpet + Water + Sun + Fish Blood = Yuck, EEEW, Grosssssssss! I know carpet has been used in boats for years, but it just seems like a temporary solution, there are lots of great surface flooring options that can be much easier to maintain.

imho, carpet should be removable, and not glued in. i personally feel carpet have no place in a boat, or a house. all is does is get gross and no matter how much cleaning you do, it ain't clean.

You can paint the epoxy with any kind of marine paint. Sand it a bit with 220-400 grit paper to give it some tooth, wipe it with acetone and paint away. (prime first)
