I just rebuilt the carburetors on my 1975 50 hp evinrude (50573b) When I started it up the engine went to full RPM's. Where should I go from here? Oh and before the rebuild it wouldn't idle at all. it would just die.

Look into carb bore, are the throttle plates being held open? They should be closed at idle.

Take a careful look at how you put the linkage back together. Sounds like you have the carb wide open at idle. Best of luck. Rick.

You were right. I had to move the nylon bracket to the next hole to close the gap. And there was a missing seal.

Now what is the best way to adjust the needle valves. I can get it idleing almost to the point where i can completely let off the start lever. Once i bring it all the way down it stalls. I was tinkering with the needle valves and got it to idle better but I have no technique. Do I start with the top needle or the lower needle?
