Hello... I have a 2000 Mercruiser 5.0 Mercarb 2 barrel 0m012817 I had the carb rebuilt by carb shop. when I picked it up he said that the float was way off and the Power Piston was bent and not doing its job. The boat runs great, and the First start of the day I just give it one full pump and it starts right up. But now, after running for a while, I have to advance the throttle and it takes a few seconds to start. Before, you would only turn the key (no throttle) and it would start immediately. I asked the carb guy and he said, before the fuel was dripping onto the cylinders so fuel was there already making it easy to start. Any thoughts on the change?? Thanks Rick

Actually I would think now the carb might be dripping fuel (incorrect float setting) and can also be caused by todays fuel. If there is to much fuel when trying to start the engine will not fire. Pushing the throttle forward to start just adds more fuel. So cranking the engine allows the excess fuel to be pulled thru and out the exhaust. Once the excess has been pulled thru and out the exhaust the engine fires.

Next time your out running and stop have a look down the throat of the carb. If you see nothing try this method, crank the motor for about 5 seconds without touching the throttle. Next move the throttle forward just slightly but enough to have it in fast idle position so to speak. What your doing is opening the throttle just a little but not enough to allow the accelerator pump to push more gas in.

Thanks will try that, actually thats what I have started doing, advance throttle just to the fast idle, crank and start but it still takes maybe 4 seconds..
And choke is fully opened when warm... its just weird that for all these years I've just turned the key
