Aftermarket Starter on 3.0L missing bracket to block

I have a GLP-C 3.0l and I realized that the previous owner replaced the starter with an aftermarket but he did not put the brace at the rear of the starter that connects to the block. I read the forums and this bracket protects the starter from vibration and the 2 mounting bolts from breaking. The problem is that my starter is a typical aftermarket one and the factory Volvo Penta bracket look like it mounts in a different area. I am sure that many of you have replaced your starter and found a way to mount a bracket. Can someone tell me what to do? I may have to fabricate a bracket if there is no solution. Also what size is the bolt that supposed to bolt on the block?

Re: Aftermarket Starter on 3.0L missing bracket to block

I checked the 3.0 mercruiser part schematics and I see a bracket that might be close enought. "MERCRUISER # 807213A1 Starter Bracket" I am thinking instead of using an angle to fabricate one just of buying the 807213A1 bracket and try to modify or drill a new hole if it does not fit. Does anyone knows if the mercruiser brackets are all one size?

Ok I ordered it. One thing that bothers me is that this bracket is for a starter with one long and one short bolt but my starter is the two long offset bolts. The bracket mounting point looks similar thought. I will post results.

Problem solved! I was able to use the 807213A1 bracket but I had to drill two new holes. Anyway, measuring, drilling and installation took less than 15 minutes. At least now I do not have to worry about broken starter mounting bolts in the block that require sometimes engine removal.
