Age of my outboard motor??

I just recently bought an older 21' Robalo center console boat with a 200 HP Black Max V-6 Power Trim outboard motor. I found a tag with "615866-S" on it. Does this indicate anything in particular? In anticipation of any future maintenance issues, I am also wanting to find a down-loadable service manual.

Thanx Gerry. I will take a closer look at that tag, but it is worn pretty bad. Are there any numbers under the hood that I could look for?

Ken;

You could look for a plug like this on the powerhead:

Ken;

Where did you find the tag with the original information? You may try and look for a plug like this:

or some date stamps, somewhere around the base of the cylinders, I think????

Thanx for the info Gerry. I will take a pic of the location where I found those numbers later and I'll pop the hood to delve a little deeper. I am new to the outboard scene so please be patient with me. I have twin 7.4 l. inboard gassers in my 1988 Sea Ray 390 EC.

Ken;

I can gurantee you that those 7.4s are way beyond my capabilities but there are many very experienced guys on this site who can help you if you need it

Here is a link to the parts for the 7.4 if you need it, presuming that they are 1988 as well:

I am sorry if I mislead you about the 7.4 l. engines Gerry. I am fine with those and everything else on that boat. It is this fishing 21' Robalo fishing boat that I just bought with the 200 HP Merc that I am trying to currently understand. I am off to work now ... chat later.

No you didn't mislead me, I was just offering the link if you needed it.
Would love to see that Sea Ray.

Can I upload a pic from my computer to this site?

Ken;

Simplest thing to do is go to:

http://imageshack.us/

and where it says BROWSE press that and it will open a window which shows where your pictures are on your computer. Click on the file where the picture is and then press UPLOAD and it will bring your picture to the site.

Then underneath you will see a list of Links which you can copy and paste here for others to see. Clear as mud????

That's not a boat Ken, it's a ship! Beautiful beast. Would look good up here. I live on Lake Temiskaming, just a little north of you.

Its an oldie but a goodie Gerry and we love it. The 14' beam makes for a spacious boat for the two of us and the draft, with the gassers, is only 28".

Re: Age of my outboard motor??

How can I lower down this 1982 engine?? Does the ignition switch have to be connected? I found an in-line fuse holder under the hood with a blown fuse. I replaced it and now I know what some of the 5 wires are that are hanging out of the dash. The Red is 12 Volts+ and the Black is 12 Volts-. Now, I just have to figure out the Orange, Yellow & White/Orange wires. Once I figure out where they go, the next challenge will be where to put these 5 wires on the new Sierra MP41000 switch that has 6 terminals on it.

Good call on this one Gerry. It takes me one step closer on this journey to get this boat wet. Please be patient with me Gerry because I am not an outboard guy and I am currently on the low side of the learning curve.

Ken;

That confirms everything I posted in post #2 and that is your s/n.

200 V-200 V6 6073192 6203990 1982 USA

Model # 1200642

Parts here:

Gerry

Does an engine of this vintage require that I add oil into the fuel tank when filling up? What would the ratio be and what grade oil do you recommend for me? I have a Mercury manual being shipped to me and I should have it next week hopefully. Then, maybe I won't have to pester you so much.
