Seems that human pee kills grass real quick (mine at least).

What can I do to restore the dirt to allow grass to grow again?

Please be mindfull that this post is serious and not frivolous. I do have a spot in the yard that needs repair. If this post is inappropriate admin or mods, kill it. I do need help here though.

Re: Ahhh...Embarasing Question

Drink more water next time pat, It'll dilute the uric acid. :) Notice how dog's pee makes the lawn greener? I think if you let it alone it will recover, maybe just flood it with water to dilute and disperse it. This all assumes, of course, that you have not been using the same spot for a regular watering spot.

Re: Ahhh...Embarasing Question

Do like I do, use multiple locations. Just a wild guess but water it down and put something to counteract the acid. I forget what you use to lower acid in soil but someone should be able to help. Also may help to loosen the soil also as it could be very compacted there also.

Edit: the more i think about it i'll bet it is a compaction problem as the best grass in my yard is over the septic lines.

Muskyone, maybe there is a difference between female dogs and male dogs.

ps, use dolemite lime to neutralize acid in lawns

Good God Pat, you have way too much acid in your diet. Cut back on the tomatoes and limes.

BTW, could you try in tee tee in the cracks in our driveway and around the fence line and bulkhead? Thanks ;)

Re: Ahhh...Embarasing Question

What you need is lime. Put it in the area according to the instuctions and it will neutralize the ground. When our dog died I used this and afer about a week reseeded and used starter fertilizer. Go to a garden center and explain your dog urinated and you want to fix the area. I am pretty sure it is lime but there is another product that does the same thing. If you are bored and have an hour to kill you can read this dog urine in the grass

Make sure you tell the garden store your dog did it. They may not want to help you if they find out you are the guilty party

There's a spot on the end of our lawn where I go every once in a while while I'm working on the boat. :D The grass definately grows alot faster there...

Re: Ahhh...Embarasing Question

Pat, Last summer I was trying to teach my son the finer points of this practice ( around the corner, behind a tree, etc.). We happened to have a friend from Houston Tx here who also has a son but was not accustomed to this practice, (big city life I guess). In my son's attempt to explain what I told him to his friend he said "Or out by the barn, thats what mom does"... We all had a good laufgh at mom's expense as this was said in earshot of everyone. ;)

Re: Ahhh...Embarasing Question

Update.........

Best practice method to restore turf is to remove affected soil. Replace with new top soil. Add grass seed, etc. Watch it grow.

Note to self...do not spend money on "Roundup" or other vegetation killer products.....'cause I make my own!!!
