Installing this steering system is a disaster!!!! I cant get the old rotary system off of the steering wheel!!! I have it all disconnected, but cant get it off where the "rod" from the steering wheel goes into the rotary system. I have all the bolts taken off, and its just hangning there, but cant get the steering wheel out of it? On the back there is like a cap, with another "pin" through the top, that spins when I turn the steering wheel. I have tried to get the "pin" out, but it wont budge. Is this what i need to get off to get it out of there? I cant find any diagrams or anything on the net.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

jgaryc3,

You have 26 posts against your name... By now you should realise that there are about that many different steering systems out there in boatland.... I'm sorry but my crystal ball is acting up just now and I can't tell which particular brand you have...

Please help us to help you by including as much information as possible to make it easier to know what you are trying to deal with.... How about posting a photo or 2 of the problem part....

Chris.......

Re: Ahhhh! Help!!

Steering wheel is 'locked' onto a 3/4" tapered shaft... You should have removed that before you unmounted the rest of the steering system.... You'll need a steering wheel puller...

Remove the cover on the centre of the wheel, remove the nut on the end of the shaft. Fit the puller and remove the steering wheel....

Re: Ahhhh! Help!!

Like all steering systems you need to start by removing the nut and washer that hold the wheel on, use a puller or hammer and punch to remove the wheel. Once the wheel is removed, remove the bezel and underneath the bezel you will find a plate or nut that holds the sector to the dash, next remove that, then pull the sector out off the dash from the backside.

In your first post you stated that you couldn't get the system off the steering wheel..... Now you say the wheel IS off.... Post some photos....
